CYGNUS SUPPORTS
THE 14th ANNUAL DISNEY TRIP.
The Company of Hackney Carriage Drivers Children's Magical Taxi Tour to Disneyland Paris.
The 14th annual trip set sail to France, on Friday 5th October at 8.30am and returned on Sunday 7th October 2007. Ninety-four Taxis converged around East Winter Garden, Canary Wharf on Friday, ready for the big send off. Cab drivers and volunteers helped transport 162 children, on the magical journey to Disneyland Resort Paris, bringing smiles and joy to their faces.
Alongside the ninety-four taxis in convoy were Metropolitan Police escorts, London Ambulances, and the Automobile Association on hand just in case their help was required. When in motion the event was 3 miles long.
The group was sent off by Alderman Sheriff Ian Lauder, who had the honour of cutting the ribbon to release the first cab on it’s journey.
Company and trade representatives were present, many sponsoring the event, as were Cygnus Taximeter Rentals Ltd, who made a donation and supported the event for the sixth year running. The Cygnus cab was driven by Ms Pat Stanley from Bethnal Green in London, who was one of four lady drivers that went on the Disney Trip.
The Disney Trip costs around £132,000. Sponsorships and fundraising events are carried out throughout the year to fund this worthwhile cause.
One of the carers was a 75 year-old grandmother, whose children persuaded her to go on Space Mountain, which is one of the most adventurous rides, she went on and enjoyed every minute of it. Most adults over the age of 50 won’t go on Space Mountain!
As mentioned there was also Cleveland Police, City of London Police, Metropolitan Police and the Gendarmerie, which made the whole event run like clockwork. The Gendarmerie came over from France on motorcycles to support the event and drove in the convoy.
Managing Director Dorian Franklin said “Congratulations to Phil Davis and the committee for again organising this wonderful children’s holiday. We would like to thank everyone who has helped, supported and attended the event, especially the drivers. I’m sure all the girls and boys had a fantastic time”.
